Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about ColStats.

What is ColStats?
ColStats is a tool for Discogs collectors who want to learn more about their collection. It syncs with your Discogs account every day and shows you trends, rarity scores, price movements and other insights that Discogs itself doesn't offer. We don't replace Discogs β€” we build on top of it.
Is ColStats affiliated with Discogs?
No. ColStats is an independent project. We use the public Discogs API to read your collection data, but we are not officially affiliated with or endorsed by Discogs.
How does the Discogs connection work?
When you sign up, you connect your Discogs account via OAuth. This gives ColStats read-only access to your collection β€” we can never modify, add or delete anything in your Discogs account. Your Discogs password is never shared with us.
How often is my data updated?
Your collection syncs automatically once a day. During each sync we pull your latest collection, market prices, want/have counts and marketplace availability. Historical data is stored from the day you sign up.
Is ColStats free?
Yes β€” during the beta period all features are completely free. If we ever introduce a paid plan, it will be the lowest possible amount to cover data storage and ongoing development. Beta testers will be the first to know about any changes.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
If you delete your account, all your data is permanently removed from our servers. We don't keep any collection data after account deletion.
Why do you ask for my email address?
We only use your email address to communicate with you about ColStats β€” for example, to notify you of important updates or changes. We will never share your email with third parties or send you marketing from other companies.
Who built this?
ColStats was built by a record collector who is passionate about data analysis and felt that Discogs was missing some insights. The goal is simple: help you see which items in your collection are becoming more or less popular, and discover things about your own collection you didn't know.
How do I add a purchase price so it shows up in ColStats?
ColStats reads your purchase price directly from Discogs, so you need to add it there. Open the Discogs app or website, go to your collection and find the record you want to update. Tap or click the three-dot menu (β‹―) on that item and choose Edit Custom Fields. Look for the field called Purchase Price β€” enter the amount you paid (just the number, e.g. 12.50). Discogs uses the currency set in your account settings. Save, and ColStats will pick up the price during the next daily sync. You can also set the purchase price when you first add a record to your collection β€” Discogs shows the custom fields form right away.
I found a bug or have a suggestion β€” how do I reach you?
We'd love to hear from you! Since we're in beta, your feedback is incredibly valuable. You can reach us by replying to any email from ColStats, or by contacting us through the Discogs account linked on the site.
